Candid Photos At Lyndhurst Cottage | Mini Day In The Life With The Marcos Family
Sarah’s mom, Ana, the matriarch of this family, approached me years ago to plan this photo-session, but because of timing issues (and later, Covid), it took us until this July to make it happen.
The idea was: document the family’s stay at their summer cottage, on Grippen lake.
I’ve been there before, because I’ve photographed their neighbors a bunch of times in years past. It’s a gorgeous place. Private, pristine, quiet…
And in mid-summer, that gorgeous green of the trees, couples with the deep blue of the lake…
Skate Jam in August 2022 - Kingston, Ontario ❤
As a photographer who is NOT a skateboarder (I mean… I tried for about a year so far… but you get hurt a lot, and I am not a huge fan of getting hurt 😜), I’m still learning what makes a good skateboarding photo.
I’m also trying to make sure I’ve got enough photos of the entire event - and not just the skateboarding photos - to flesh out the story.
A Walk in The Park | Snippet in the life of Tiiu, Dale, and their kids
I have been photographing Tiiu and Dale’s family for several years now. The very first time I saw them, Tiiu was still pregnant with her daughter.
It's been a joy to watch the kids grow, and develop personalities. So much personality!
Year In The Life | The Timmerman-Veley-Halladay Family Spend Thanksgiving Morning at Lemoine Point
This is a family you might have seen on my social media before, or maybe even on the blog.
You see, I've been following the Timmerman-Veley-Halladay family for a long time now.
I've been their family photographer for years, in fact.
You’re heard about family doctor, family dentist… family therapist… what else?
Well, family photographer :)
A 50th Wedding Anniversary Afternoon Summer Celebration | Sally and Arnie gather with their family at their Wolfe Island home
Wolfe island is a pretty magical place, and as I've learned, there is a long and rich history to it.
Another thing I've learned about Wolfe Island, is that there are the “Islanders”, and then there’s everybody else.
You might have lived on the island for 10, 20 or even to years, but unless you, your parents, and your grandparents was all born on the island, you're probably not really considered an “Islander.” (Right? Islanders, help me out here!)
That doesn't mean you can't have an absolutely amazing experience living there, mind you. Even if you move there later on in life, like Sally and Arnie - the matriarch and patriarch of this family.
Skeleton Park Family Photo-session | For All Families New to Candid Family Photography
If you're new to the idea of candid family photography, you might have lots of questions. This blog answers some of the main ones, like WHY is candid family photography so fun and good?
An (extra)ordinary day in the Life: Moving Day with the Clarke Family
Moving house with kids can be stressful. Shawn and Christen did a spectacular job of keeping their two young girls entertained and excited on this day, with Herculean effort. There was lots of running around, but most of all - lots of fun! Enjoy the slideshow I created and get in touch for your very own Day in the Life session.
How happiness spreads: spending a snippet of time with Irit, Mike, and Leo.
Kindness is everything, and spending time with family is true happiness. I spent a small snippet in the life of Irit and Mike, with their adorable toddler Leo in Ottawa, and captured a bunch of fun things they love to do together.
I even made a slideshow! Hope you enjoy :)
You know family photographs are important, but you hate being photographed. Le sigh.
Here’s the honest truth: It’s not as though when I first arrive at someone’s house for the first time, they’re doing a little excited jig, eager to get their photos taken for three hours or a full day.
How one photography session altered the course of my career (sort of)...
I didn’t realize it back then, but this was one of the sessions that would shape my career in photography. It was after this session - during which I didn’t once glance at whatever lighting equipment I had brought - that I realized I probably do not NEED all that equipment I had planned on acquiring.
Life is anything but ordinary
Over the years, you have learned - without realizing it - that your real life is ‘ordinary’. You have learned that the everyday moments, those regular things that happen daily, are less than ‘special’.
What you have learned is a lie.
School photos: there is a better way.
This is a photography experience that is as bendy and stretchy as your kids on the playground. It will give you as much joy as does hearing those two-word utterances your kids make when you ask them 'how was your day'? Ok, maybe more joy.
what kind of perfection is it, anyway?
You hope for drama and impact, and it might get messy, and maybe that's what makes it in an imperfect way, great.
#beautiful yet #unposed
I have tremendous respect for photographers who are good at posing their clients, getting the best angles of their faces, and achieving beautiful portraits as a result. It's hard to do it well, so it earns a huge tip of my proverbial hat.
Me? I'm maybe not one of those photographers.
